ETHICS AND ESCHATOLOGY The ethical element is of fundamental importance in determin ing the quality of a religion: it is a powerful factor in elevating the object of worship, the religious relation, and the religious life. At the pre-deistic stage the sacred is interpenetrated with magical beliefs, and ethical principles have their lowly. Ethics is the branch of Christian theology that deals with moral principles. These moral principles concern the Law of God and the commands of Christ. “Ye shall not add unto the word which I command you, neither shall ye diminish ought from it, that ye may keep the commandments of the LORD your God which I command you.” (Deut. ).

Eschatology / ˌ ɛ s k ə ˈ t ɒ l ə dʒ i / is a part of theology concerned with the final events of history, or the ultimate destiny of humanity. This concept is commonly referred to as the "end of the world" or "end times".The word arises from the Greek ἔσχατος eschatos meaning "last" and -logy meaning "the study of", and first appeared in English around Eschatology, or the theology of last things, is a Christian doctrine with a rather direct bearing on ethical questions via its influence on psychological dispositions to act. Perhaps for this reason, eschatology is a major topic in much of contemporary Christian thought concerned with promoting social and political activism. What one believes about the end of things affects how one feels about.

In both the first edition of Kingdom Ethics and in the deeply revised second edition that I completed after Stassen’s death, 3 we begin our book with an exposition of what we say Jesus meant by ‘Kingdom of God’. 4 In essence, we claim that when Jesus came preaching about the Kingdom of God, he was both adopting and transmuting long. In addition, revealed wisdom often has creational associations and this has significance for the notion of ethics in these texts. The book will interest anyone concerned with the development of Jewish and Christian eschatology and ethics. It also challenges the simplistic redactional assumptions of certain New Testament scholars.

Without Christ-centered eschatology there are no ethics, just party platforms. The Christian’s eschatology is not simply a set of beliefs about what will happen in the future; it is the atmosphere of courage and hope in which we live and serve our Messiah-king—in the already but not yet, no matter where we presently find ourselves.
